Dangers facing the society that embrace computer screens at the expense of face to face contact for its means of communication

Communication is the fundamental components for decision making, coordination, control and planning and meeting the multidimensional needs of an individual. Computer Communications has been credited for speedy transmissions of information, has a wide coverage in the global village, relatively have a low cost in terms of time and money, allows for instant feedback and facilitate the management of the global operations (Stallings, 2007). However, a community that solely depends on the computer communication as a means of communication at the expense of face to face communication faces the challenges in the dynamic changing environment (Tomasi, 2004).

Dangers facing a society that depends on computer screens rather than the face to face contact as a means of communications

The fundamental aim of developing communication is developing the social skills that are necessary for the social context, working environment and successful relationships. On the contrary, with the computer communication, it has become a challenge to ascertain the relationship building in the society that hinders the social development of the skills and relationship abilities in the individual environment (Stallings, 2007).  Additionally, the effective form of personal communication is two-way communication in which both parties are actively engaged and include the communication aspects such as the voice, inflection, body language (non-verbal communication) that serves as the reinforcers of the messages and communications process that is not possible with the embraced computer communications thus leaving the message vulnerable to being misunderstood (Tomasi, 1987).

The volume of data and cost of development of the computer communications presents a challenge to the society, the volume of information sent via the computer is increasing at a fast rate that individuals are unable to absorb the fundamental aspects and the information within the relevant time limits, however, if attention is not given, the computer communication response can be void. The computer communication requires huge investments for the infrastructural development that can hardly be met due to continuous and frequent changes in technology (Stallings, 2007). Computer communication requires high rates of dependency and the person engage in the communication process must embrace computer networks in order to communicate effectively, failure of the network would mean that the channels of communication are broken down that hinders the communication process in the society that can cause the incidence of undelivered data in the communications process, thus becomes ineffective.
